Learn Spiritual Journaling with Women Journaling Greenville

January 30th, 2013 . by ssh

greenville community of christHave you tried journaling, but then quit? OR have you never tried it, but would like to? OR have you been journaling every day since you turned 13?

Regardless of your current skill level or your prior experience, Greenville women are invited to join this recently formed meetup group meeting at Greenville Community of Christ roughly every other week.

This group is for women who are interested in what journaling does or can add to their lives. In particular, we will focus on spiritual journaling as a Christian spiritual discipline.

The “spiritual” part means we will focus on writing about not just what happens in our lives, but also examining what meaning events have for us. We will learn to think intentionally about the purpose and value of experiences and practices, in terms of what God wants for us.

This is a non-denominational group. Everyone is welcome. All perspectives will be encouraged as long as they are presented with respect for others. No judging allowed.

We will also explore other spiritual disciplines including prayer, scripture study, meditation, and walking the labyrinth.

Material on spiritual disciplines is primarily based on Spiritual Disciplines Handbook by Adele Ahlberg Calhoun. Additional material on different types of journaling is supplied by the group organizer, Community of Christ member Sharon Hines.

Meeting notices are posted under Women Journaling Greenville on meetup.com.

There are currently 2 sub-groups — one meeting during the day and the other meeting in the evening. Each meeting topic is is discussed once in each group.

PLEASE NOTE: Since we are a small group, meetings may be rescheduled at the last minute if not enough people are coming. Be sure to check for last minute updates BEFORE you leave home for the meeting.

For more information, contact Sharon Hines at shinespied@gmail.com.

Papercraft Club Hosts Christmas in August

July 27th, 2012 . by ssh

greenville community of christ

Greenville Community of Christ’s Papercraft Club will be hosting a Christmas in August stamp camp on Saturday, August 18, 2012. Demonstrations and materials are being provided by a group of local StampinUp Demonstrators, led by Trish Kolarik.

The goal is to have a day of fun, to demonstrate some fun projects you can make for Christmas gifts, and to give you a chance to make 5 different projects to take home with you.  There will be hourly door prize drawings, and a chance to make some new friends.

The cost of the event is $39.99 if you pay by August 1, or $45.00 by August 13.  You can register online here and pay via PayPal or credit card.

There is no obligation to purchase any additional product.  It is just a fun way to share a crafting hobby that many of us have been enjoying, to give you an opportunity to learn more about stamping, and to get some great ideas for Christmas gifts.

Your registration fee includes a free Christmas stamp set, materials for all 5 of the projects you will be making (cards, ornament, gift bag), lunch, and door prize raffle tickets.  The event will be from 10-4, but you do not need to stay all day. However, you will want to make sure you have time to make all your projects.

Some other demonstrations include a software tool to make scrapbooks and other printed papers, cards, etc. on your computer that you can print out or have professionally printed, cookie press stamps, die cutting tool, and bow making.

This is open to ANYONE who may be interested, so please feel free to pass along to anyone else, including sharing this page on Facebook or Twitter.  You also get an additional goodie if you get a friend to sign up with you.

For more information, contact Trish at kolarik91@hotmail.com.

Children’s Gospel Choir Open to Community

March 12th, 2012 . by ssh

Our new Children’s Gospel Choir meets every other Saturday, from 1:30 to 3:00 pm. We currently have a diverse group of 10 members, with plenty of room for more. All interested children age 7 to 17 are invited to come and learn to sing in a fun, welcoming, and safe environment.

Our choir director is Mrs. Cindy Wilder who has professional singing experience. She knows how to create an upbeat, joyful experience that will make your child eager for more. “Miss Cindy” is ably assisted each week by others in the congregation, so there are ample adult chaperones present during each rehearsal.

The choir will be performing one or two songs on Easter Sunday at the 11am service. Everyone is welcome to come and hear the fruits of the children’s hard work.

Parents of interested children are invited to stop by during our meeting time, or use our Contact Us form to request more information.

For specific rehearsal dates, see our Upcoming Events page.

Papercraft Club Provides Fellowship and Fun

January 22nd, 2012 . by ssh

Greenville SC Community of Christ’s Papercraft Club resumes it’s monthly meetings for 2012 starting on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. Each month we gather for fellowship and to work on various projects including card making, scrapbooking, and other fun projects made from paper.

This club is open to all adults, including church members, guests, and Greenville community residents. At a minimum, attendees should bring their own scissors and adhesive (double-sided tape, glue stick, and/or glue dots). Some meetings may require additional materials such as card stock or scrapbooking paper. Also, participants may want to bring tools such as paper trimmers, scoring boards, decorative punches, rubber stamps, and ink pads.

Past projects have included greeting cards for various occasions, photo pockets, and Halloween treat boxes. Our members are constantly on the look-out for new ideas, so there’s something different every month.

If you are planning to attend for the first time, please use the Contact Us form to let us know. That way, we can send you a list of supplies for the upcoming meeting.greenville community of christ

If you can’t make it this month, keep checking back. We try to meet once a month, always on a Tuesday. Future meetings will be listed on the Upcoming Events page.
